March is National Nutrition Month, and we want to celebrate by sharing some nutrition tips with you to promote healthy, happy families! Here’s some of our nutrition tips to help your family grow together and thrive.

Incorporate Fruits & Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables not only add color into your diet, but they provide you with the essential nutrients you and your family need to promote healthy growth and improve how you feel on a daily basis.

Try letting your children pick out a fruit or vegetable each time you visit the grocery store, and then involve them in the cooking process to teach them about nutritious eating habits. This will prepare them to make healthy meal-time decisions in the future.

Add Healthy Sources of Protein
Chicken, fish, and beans are excellent sources of protein! Try to limit your consumption of red meat, keep your portion size small, and choose the leanest cuts. Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, trout, and albacore tuna are good sources of omega-3 fatty acids and can also aid in cognitive development for children.

A small handful of nuts or seeds, such as almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachios, and walnuts, can be a satisfying snack as well as an additional source of protein and other healthy nutrients.

Plan Ahead
When it comes to prepping meals and grocery shopping, planning ahead can ensure you have items on hand to prepare delicious meals for your family.

Set aside time each week or month to plan the meals ahead—you can involve your children and family members to get their input or help brainstorming! To make planning and budgeting easier, place your recipes, grocery list, and coupons in the same place.

Preparing nutritious meals doesn’t need to break the bank! With the right planning, you can easily eat healthily on a budget. Cooking at home means that you have more control over ingredients and portion sizes, so try eating in more than dining out.

Remember that teaching children to establish healthy habits early in life can result in lifelong benefits; being a good role model, making the process fun, and involving the whole family will set you all up for success!
